Azure L1 Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated and technically strong L1 Azure Engineer to join our Cloud Infrastructure and Operations team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Windows Server administration and a foundational understanding of Microsoft Azure.

This role is suited for an engineer who is strong in troubleshooting, understands core infrastructure concepts, is comfortable working with enterprise environments, and demonstrates the ability to learn and grow into Azure infrastructure, cloud operations, automation, and security.

The engineer will work as part of a 24x7 or business-hours cloud operations/support team and will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, incident resolution, operational tasks, and escalation of complex issues to L2/L3 teams.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure

• Monitor and support Azure resources including:
• Azure Virtual Machines
• Virtual Networks and subnets
• Network Security Groups
• Storage Accounts
• Azure Load Balancer
• Azure Backup
• Azure Monitor
• Azure Resource Groups
• Perform basic VM provisioning, configuration, start/stop/restart and troubleshooting activities.
• Investigate Azure monitoring alerts and infrastructure incidents.
• Perform basic Azure resource health and performance checks.
• Follow established Azure operational procedures and runbooks.
• Support Azure migration and infrastructure operations activities.

Windows Server

• Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server environments.
• Troubleshoot:
• CPU and memory utilization
• Disk space and disk performance
• Windows services
• Event Viewer errors
• Windows updates
• DNS/DHCP issues
• Active Directory connectivity
• RDP issues
• File and folder permissions
• Perform basic Active Directory administration.
• Understand Windows Server roles and features.
• Troubleshoot domain-joined server issues.

Networking

• Troubleshoot basic TCP/IP connectivity issues.
• Understand IP addressing, subnetting, DNS and DHCP.
• Troubleshoot connectivity using tools such as:
• ping
• tracert
• nslookup
• Test-NetConnection
• ipconfig
• Understand basic Azure networking concepts including VNet, subnet, NSG, routing and VPN.

Identity & Security

• Understand Microsoft Entra ID fundamentals.
• Understand users, groups, roles and authentication concepts.
• Troubleshoot basic authentication and access issues.
• Understand least privilege and basic cloud security principles.
• Follow organizational security and access-management procedures.

Monitoring & Incident Management

• Monitor infrastructure using Azure Monitor and enterprise monitoring/RMM tools.
• Analyze alerts and identify the probable cause of incidents.
• Perform first-level troubleshooting and remediation.
• Document incidents and troubleshooting activities.
• Escalate issues appropriately to L2/L3 teams with relevant logs, evidence and troubleshooting performed.
• Participate in incident, problem and change-management processes.

Automation

• Demonstrate basic PowerShell knowledge.
• Automate simple administrative tasks using PowerShell.
• Understand scripting fundamentals such as variables, loops, conditions and error handling.
• Develop the ability to automate repetitive operational activities.

Required Technical Skills

Essential

• 1–2 years of experience in IT infrastructure / Windows Server / cloud operations.
• Hands-on Windows Server administration experience.
• Good understanding of Active Directory.
• Basic Azure knowledge.
• Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS and networking.
• Basic PowerShell knowledge.
• Good troubleshooting methodology.
• Understanding of ITIL/incident management concepts.

Azure Knowledge

Candidate should understand the purpose and basic operation of:

• Azure Virtual Machines
• Resource Groups
• VNets
• Subnets
• NSGs
• Azure Storage
• Azure Monitor
• Azure Backup
• Microsoft Entra ID
• Azure RBAC
• Azure Portal
• Azure Cost Management fundamentals

Azure certification such as AZ-900 or AZ-104 is desirable but should not be mandatory if the candidate demonstrates strong practical knowledge.
